Dante Devil May Cry Funny Face

Capcom'sDevil May Cry series is famous for pioneering the modern hack-and-slash action game, featuring an easy-to-learn, difficult-to-master combo system and ranking players based on how stylish they look while demolishing enemies. Essential to the sheer awesomeness of the series is the astounding charisma and coolness of its party-loving pizza-devouring protagonist, Dante.

Being the nearly immortal and nigh-indestructible half-demon son of the legendary Dark Knight Sparda, Dante doesn't just laugh in the face of danger -- he verbally and literally roundhouse kicks danger in the face until it cries uncle. Dante feels the need to show off at all times, whether it's before, during or even after the battle. Here are some of his wildest moments through the series.

Blowing Up a Motorcycle After Being Impaled

The original game's very first cutscene establishes Dante's capabilities and cockiness, kicking off the series-long trend of Dante and other protagonists pulling off the most over-the-top action sequences. Sitting in the small office of the titular Devil May Cry shop, Dante laments the lack of business lately when the hunter Trish busts his door down with her motorcycle.

As a way to test Dante's strength, Trish electrocutes and impales Dante on his own sword, followed by throwing her motorcycle at him with her bare hands. Dante, establishing the tone of the series, brushes off his injury with stride and blows up the motorcycle mid-flight with Ebony and Ivory, his signature pair of pistols with an unlimited supply of demon-slaying ammunition.

Shooting Pool With Demons

While the first game established the wild action and confident protagonist that Devil May Cry would become known for, it was the prequel third game that fully developed Dante's personality and backstory. After a narration of Dante and Vergil's longstanding rivalry, the player is greeted with the image of a shirtless Dante relaxing in his shop and eating pizza, only to be interrupted by Arkham's demons.

Despite being stabbed with at least a dozen blades, Dante promptly makes fools out of his enemies by utterly thrashing them with the very scythe blades that he was impaled with. In fact, he seems far more concerned with the pizza he planned to eat and the music his jukebox is playing than the demons trying to kill him. Performing flat-out impossible feats such as parrying with his pistols and using an enemy as a skateboard, he tops it all off by shooting a bullet into a cue ball and managing to slam multiple billiard balls into enemies' faces in a perfect ricochet.

Reciting Shakespeare With a Demon Mad Scientist

Despite not actually being the protagonist of Devil May Cry 4, Dante still shines as a playable character. Not only does he have a greatly improved moveset from the third game, he also gets several fun moments in cutscenes. Once again, his modus operandi involves toying with his opponents in the most stylishly insulting manner possible.

In one of the game's strangest moments, the demonic mad scientist Agnus waxes philosophical about his hatred of human weakness in a Shakespearean manner, complete with a Yorick skull. Dante actually humors Agnus' act and ends up matching him in wit blow-for-blow, mocking him for assuming humans lack any strength, getting showered with confetti and finally laying a .45 caliber coup de grace after finishing the speech with a line from Hamlet.

Becoming a Smooth Criminal

Dante comes roaring back in Devil May Cry 5 as one of the primary protagonists, somehow managing to surpass his previous appearances in sheer over-the-top awesomeness within his first few playable missions. From shaving his beard on an enemy's blades to turning a motorcycle into a pair of gigantic chainsaws, Dante immediately demonstrates he's not the least bit rusty even after a long absence.

Perhaps his wildest scene in the game comes when he tests fangirl Nico Goldstein's latest Devil Arm weapon, Dr. Faust, a magical hat taken from an enemy from the fourth game that shoots the game's currency as powerful ammunition. But instead of demonstrating its in-game usage like he normally would with other Devil Arms, Dante pulls off an entire Michael Jackson dance routine while wearing it, which is simultaneously perplexingly out-of-nowhere and absolutely amazing.
