I would like to know how many of you give beefiness back rib bones to your dogs as a recreational os? I take been giving them to my 16 month one-time GS female who is very lady similar when eating the meat off and chewing the bone. I exercise take the bone away before it gets to pocket-size.

I am asking considering I did come across a small fleck in one of her teeth but I don't know for sure if she got it from the bones. It's 1 of those things where I simply happened to notice it the 1 day of her chewing on the bone. It may accept been there from a rock or rough housing with some other dog or? I do check every time now just to come across but haven't seen another since.

Thanks
Joe

Still, have it looked at by a vet.

Something small can get big and expensive quick. Not to mention painful.

All rec basic would cease if this were my canis familiaris. Even beef rib basic. Those suckers are difficult.

Joe it depends on the dog. I take one canis familiaris who chews everything to the point of destroying her teeth. And then for her she gets no rec bones, chainlink fencing, or lumber to chew on.

All v of my other dogs can handle cleaning off a rec bone without hurting themselves. Since your dog has already managed to damage her teeth you should accept it checked out before it becomes an expensive fracture and not requite her rec bones at all.

Joe it depends on the domestic dog. I accept one domestic dog who chews everything to the point of destroying her teeth. And then for her she gets no rec bones, chainlink fencing, or lumber to chew on.

All five of my other dogs can handle cleaning off a rec bone without hurting themselves. Since your dog has already managed to harm her teeth you should have it checked out before it becomes an expensive fracture and not give her rec bones at all.

I heartily concord.

I know that I have mentioned it several times, but I am mentioning it once again:

My granddog at that age (nevertheless a immature canis familiaris with a lifetime ahead of needing his teeth) broke a tooth on a rec os and his root culvert and crown cost thousands of dollars. Remember that all the procedures require similar skills equally for humans, PLUS full general anesthesia for each step.

Hi Michael,
So you don't allow any rec bone's at all?

I'chiliad not Michael, but I'll answer your question (and echo Connie and Melissa's posts): No, I haven't given my dog a rec bone since the day he slab fractured a molar, which required a very expensive root canal to prepare (he was but 2 at the time).

If you're seeing chipped teeth on your pup, particularly every bit young as she is, I'd both go information technology checked out by a vet (just to be safe) and terminate giving her rec bones from here on out. I know how much enjoyment dogs leave of rec bones, just trust me, a cleaved molar is so not worth it.

I merely give rec basic to puppies. These are shin/marrow bones or knuckle bones. Adult dogs would simply try to chew them up if you lot don't have them abroad as presently as they get the marrow out and then they don't chew on them. I have very occasionally given them to adults but you need to monitor closly to remove them from the dog & also be able to have high valued nutrient sources from your dogs, which I can do, but don't like to make a practice of doing to them. I simply don't think that it is fair to practice. JMO

Well not what nosotros wanted to hear but I respect everyone'due south opinions hither. I'm not sure who will be more bummed about no more basic her or me, I know how excited she was to swallow those meaty things.
That's similar telling a cleft head no more than rock, not that at that place was ever an outcome about taking her bone abroad when I wanted simply as Anne said not fair.

The vet said it was not whatever thing to worry about merely I will go on an eye on information technology.

Could I get one of you to pause the news to her, LOL........
